Zooming and panning
in a drawing

Viewing a drawing or large image in CADViewer is greatly enhanced by the powerful zoom and pan features. With the Zoom buttons, you can magnify a small portion of an image for a closer look at that highly detailed region, or reduce the image to get "the big picture". Panning around the image (with the Hand cursor) allows you to quickly slide the viewer over a hidden region of the drawing. This Web page details the use of all the Zoom and Pan features.

Using the Zoom features to Zoom In

The Zoom In/Out feature is one of several ways that you can "zoom in" to magnify more detailed portions of a drawing.

  1. Click the Zoom In/Out button -- shown below.

The Zoom In/Out Cursor appears: . Press and hold the left mouse button down. Move the cursor towards the top of the screen as you continue to hold the left mouse button down.. The CADViewer magnifies a smaller region of the same drawing--showing more details.

TIP: After the cursor reaches the top of the screen, you can release the left mouse button, reposition the mouse towards you, hold the left mouse button down again, and move the cursor towards the top of the screen. As long as the Zoom In/Out Cursor appears, this sequence can be repeated until the desired level of detail is displayed.

TIP: You can (and should) use the Pan feature to move the desired portion of the image into view as you use CADViewer to zoom into the drawing.

Another way to "zoom in" is with the Zoom Window feature.

  1. Click the Zoom Window button.

  2. Decide which region you'd like to magnify.

  3. Click the mouse on one corner of this region, then drag the mouse (while holding the mouse button down) until a zoom rectangle surrounds the desired region.

  4. When you let go of the mouse, the selected region will fill the CADViewer window.

Using the Zoom features to Zoom Out

The Zoom In/Out feature is one of several ways that you can "zoom out" to see a larger portion of the same drawing.

  1. Click the Zoom In/Out button -- shown below.

The Zoom In/Out Cursor appears: . Press and hold the left mouse button down. Move the cursor towards the bottom of the screen as you continue to hold the left mouse button down.. The CADViewer displays a larger region of the same drawing--showing less details.

TIP: After the cursor reaches the bottom of the screen, you can release the left mouse button, reposition the mouse away from you, hold the mouse button down again, and move the cursor towards the bottom of the screen. As long as the Zoom In/Out Cursor appears, this sequence can be repeated until the desired level of detail is displayed.

Another way to "zoom out" is with the Zoom Extents feature.

  1. Click the Zoom Extents button -- shown below.

The CADViewer window displays the extents of the drawing. This the same as the original view that is displayed when the file is opened.

Using the Pan features

Panning allows you to move to and view a new region in a drawing while keeping the scale constant. To use this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Pan button. (This turns the pan feature "on"—which means you don't have to repeatedly click it to pan a drawing.)

  2. Move the cursor onto the drawing and click-and-drag to move the drawing around in the viewer window. Other hidden areas will come into view.

Once the mouse is released, the new view of the drawing will be rendered in the viewer.
